Things to Consider When Playing Songs on Twitch

  • Choose the right music: Instead of going with trending music, it’s best to choose music that sets the mood.
  • Be careful about the copyright content: If you plan to be a creator on Twitch, do not use any copyrighted music without permission.
  • Ensure to double-check: While you might see claims such as safe music, they still can’t be completely taken into account. Hence, verify the licensing information before using it in your work.

Can You Play Copyrighted Music on Twitch

The simple answer is No. You can’t play any music of your choice, as it might be copyright-protected. You must seek the creator’s permission or pay for the rights to stream the music on your live sessions.

What Happens if I Keep Using Forbidden Music on Twitch

If you play any copyrighted songs without permission, it will violate both Twitch’s terms of service and copyright law. That means you might face issues such as a temporary ban, stream removal, or legal action from the copyright owner. Often, users get DMCA takedown when they use copyright-protected content without the user’s permission.

What Music Can You Play on Twitch and How to Find It

If you want to play a song that’s copyright protected, you must contact the copyright holder to seek permission to use it. You will be further required to pay a fee to use it. However, there are still some ways to play music on Twitch:

  • Use copyright-free music: Many websites offer a wide range of copyright-free music, such as NCS and Chillhop music. You can use music from them in your Twitch stream.
  • Royalty-free library: There are services like Epidemic sound, Envato Elements, and others, but you must pay a subscription to use their library. Usually, music in these libraries is more professional and can suit your streams.
  • Use music in the public domain: When the copyright protection of a product is over, it will enter into the public domain and can then be used by anyone. Usually, the copyright protection lasts for around 100 years. Hence, you can use the songs in the public domain without worry.
  • Collaborate with rising creators: Budding talents in the industry often love to get a shoutout. Hence, they will collaborate with creators. That will allow you to use their music with or without paying much.
